Build by entrepreneurs.

Powered by a trusted US ecosystem
WHO ARE WE

Hummingbird Biomedical was founded by Professor Marianne van der Steen, PhD, a serial founding CEO, venture partner and transatlantic scaling executive with more than fifteen years of experience building, funding and scaling life sciences ventures.

Marianne and her team understand the science, the CEO’s reality and the complexity of entering the US market. Through Hummingbird’s global venture studio, she provides selected ventures with direct access to an exceptional and deeply trusted network of US executives, investors, clinical leaders, laboratories and industry partners across Arizona, California and beyond.

These are long-standing relationships, built through years of working together and personally activated for each venture.

This gives ventures immediate access to the leadership, local credibility and execution power they need to scale, without having to build a full US organization from day one.

Marianne’s experience has taught her that breakthrough science is only the beginning. Building an investable and M&A-ready venture requires clear priorities, the right sequence and disciplined execution.

The real advantage lies in knowing what matters now, what can wait and which trusted partners can accelerate the next stage of growth.

OUR STORY

Before founding Hummingbird Biomedical, Marianne co-founded and led, among others, RegMed XB and ReGEN Biomedical, helped mobilize more than €500 million in public and private funding and co-established an early-stage investment fund with BioGeneration Ventures. She has served as a venture partner and advisor to European and US investment funds and family offices, including Ohana Capital Partners.

She also pioneered and developed executive and corporate programs for the biopharma and life sciences sector, including the first MBA in Life Sciences & Health, developed with partners including Harvard Business School and the University of California, Irvine. Over the past decade, she founded and developed CEO XB, the Global Scale-Up Program, Boston Capital Match and the Global Investor Forum—initiatives designed in direct response to the challenges life sciences CEOs face when building, funding and scaling internationally.

Working alongside founders, CEOs, investors and industry leaders on both sides of the Atlantic reinforced one clear principle: international expansion succeeds when ventures move in deliberate steps, supported by experienced and trusted partners on the ground.
